About
Possessed with an urbane and elegant sound, Naama's new LP, Where Flamingos Fly (on label La-Reserve), is an honest & intimate project featuring vibraphonist Steve Nelson.
The NYC based jazz vocalist's 3rd release consist of 12 tracks, 6 of which feature a collaboration with Nelson (following their work together on 'Dearly Beloved', 2020). The remaining tracks feature a magnificent NYC rhythm section - Bruce Barth on piano and Dave Baron on bass (co- arranger).

Where Flamingos Fly shares Naama’s gifts as a storyteller. Together, she and her band transport listeners to a corner booth at a cozy, dimly lit club, flashing the chemistry she's built over long-running residencies at Mezzrow and Smalls in the West Village.

Recorded in the summer of 2022, Naama describes the music as reflecting a more vulnerable, mature side of herself, all within the magical sound palette of her longtime band. "This project is more about me and where I was emotionally while recording it. It’s a true self-portrait, a grown up album.”
Israeli born, Naama’s sensitive interpretation and crisp phrasing have become recognizable elements of her signature style and timeless appeal. Naama appears in celebrated festivals and acclaimed jazz venues in NYC as well as on the international jazz scene.

"... a haunting melody lingers in our minds long after the song ends, evoking emotions that bring back memories and transport us to different places and times... a must-listen for jazz enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates a well-told story..." Marcus Adetola, Neon Music
"...Her sensitivity and attachment to the melodies pervades an emotional depth that is intimate and visceral... Naama’s interpretation and emotive phrasing has a timeless appeal.." Susan Frances, Jazz 2 Love

"... Naama summons from her impressive emotional palette the necessary elements of conveying the complex environment of uncertainty in the face of a sorley-needed normality. Her voice, cushioned with Nelson's lightly applied vibraphone, captures the delicately suspended and fragile memory of childhood..." C.Michael Bailey, Wild Mercury Rhythm

The Band
Steve Nelson- Vibraphone
Acknowledged as "...the most completely realized and original performer on the vibraphone," Steve Nelson is one of the most highly regarded vibraphonists of his generation

Bruce Barth - Piano
Bruce Barth has been sharing his music with listeners the world over for more than thirty-five years. "A musician of modesty and patience… he connects the fragments of his band’s sound and melts into them.” Ben Ratliff, The New York Times

Dave Baron - Bass
Baron is the quintessential "big voice," powering up the rhythm sections of some of the world's top groups, and defining that 21st century sound. He has demonstrated his skills supporting such jazz luminaries as Eric Reed, Peter Bernstein, Joe Magnarelli, Bruce Barth, Mary Stallings, Jimmy Greene, and others.
